CIJIA - Congreso Jóvenes investigadoras/es África

After the success of the first edition of the International Congress of Young Researchers on Africa (CIJIA) in October 2019, Nanouki Association, together with the University of Valladolid, is once again organising this event.

The 2nd CIJIA will take place from 30 September to 1 October 2021 at the Universidad de Valladolid and aims to create spaces for debate and learning for young researchers who focus their work on the African continent and the Diaspora. This is why we are committed to the participation not only of doctoral students and young PhD researchers, but also of Master's and Bachelor's students and even independent researchers who wish to train and contribute with new studies. The title of this edition is: 'Africa in the 21st century: traditions, revolutions and alternatives'.

The First International Congress of Young Researchers on Africa (CIJIA) was held as part of the Third Congress on Sustainable Development (CoDeS) the 4th of October 2019. The main objective of this congress was to generate spaces of learning and debate for young researchers, as well as to give visibility to the new generations within the Academy. Both undergraduate and master students, doctoral students and young doctors attended.

The I CIJIA became a success for two reasons. First, it was the first congress of its kind held in Spain, and there was no other similar event focused on young researchers on Africa. In addition, different universities and research groups were subsequently interested in the format. Secondly, more than 50 papers were sent, from which a total of 35 were selected. The participants came from different institutions: Spanish (Granada, Salamanca, Valladolid, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Barcelona, Asturias...), Portuguese (Coimbra and Lisbon) and even African, as two researchers from Togo attended.
Of the contributions that were presented at the I CIJIA, a total of 17 were chosen for publication in an online book format by the University of Valladolid Publishing Service. The selection was made on the basis of the novelty of the research topic addressed and its academic quality. This volume, under the title: `África, un continente en transformación.
